SMAS Lifting

SMAS lifting (Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System) is a modern hardware-based, non-surgical facelift and body tightening technique, based on the use of high-frequency ultrasound waves. Unlike superficial procedures, the energy penetrates deep into the skin layers and affects the musculo-aponeurotic system (SMAS layer). As a result, tissues are tightened, wrinkles are reduced, and facial contours become more defined.

How It Works

The technique uses focused ultrasound that penetrates the skin at a strictly set frequency. Under its influence, microthermal coagulation points are formed, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. The effect is comparable to a surgical facelift, but the procedure is performed without incisions or long rehabilitation.

Therapeutic and Cosmetic Effect

Ultrasound exposure provides a comprehensive effect:

  • lifting of the facial oval and reduction of skin laxity;

  • smoothing of wrinkles around the eyes, forehead, and nasolabial folds;

  • improvement of skin quality and surface texture;

  • rejuvenation without surgery;

  • strengthening of tissues in the neck and décolleté area.

Indications for SMAS Lifting

The procedure is recommended in cases of:

  • decreased skin elasticity;

  • pronounced age-related changes of the face and body;

  • appearance of wrinkles and folds;

  • sagging of soft tissues;

  • blurred facial contours.

Contraindications

SMAS lifting is not performed during pregnancy, in cases of oncology, severe chronic diseases, blood clotting disorders, the presence of metal implants or pacemakers. The procedure is also contraindicated in cases of skin inflammation or infection.

How Is SMAS Lifting Performed?

A contact gel is applied to the skin, after which the specialist works with an ultrasound device. The patient may feel slight tingling or warmth, but no significant pain. The procedure lasts from 30 to 90 minutes depending on the area.

Preparation

No special preparation is required. It is recommended to avoid alcohol, thermal procedures, and aggressive skincare for several days before the session. A doctor’s consultation is mandatory.

Rehabilitation

The recovery period is minimal: you can return to your normal lifestyle immediately after the session. Mild redness or slight swelling may occur, usually disappearing within 24 hours.

Side Effects

Possible side effects include mild skin sensitivity, a feeling of tightness, or small indurations in the treated area. All symptoms are temporary and resolve without treatment.

Clinical Application

SMAS lifting is used in cosmetology for significant facelift effects, contour correction, wrinkle reduction, and skin quality improvement. The method is suitable for both women and men, and often serves as an alternative to surgical procedures.

Evidence of Effectiveness

Clinical studies confirm that SMAS lifting stimulates neocollagenesis, strengthens tissues, and provides a visible lifting effect comparable to a surgical facelift, but without invasive intervention.
