The bracelet code is scanned during medical procedures, and each procedure is automatically recorded in the patient's medical record. The innovation saves time for doctors and nurses that they spend on routine data entry and retrieval, and also accelerates medical care delivery. The system is used during radiology diagnostics, laboratory tests and surgeries, as well as when transporting patients between departments.
Previously, the system was tested only in several large Moscow hospitals; now it has been implemented in all city inpatient facilities. This is the first large-scale experience of digitizing inpatient pathways in Russia.
QR bracelets or barcode bracelets for error-free patient identification are included in the list of conditions for obtaining JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation. JCI recommends using bracelets that are placed on the patient's wrist upon admission to the clinic.
Russian practice already has successful examples: for example, Medicine JSC clinic in Moscow received JCI certification in 2011 and implemented a patient identification assurance system using bracelets.
Digital transformation of medicine in Russia is occurring not only in individual government institutions and private clinics, but throughout the entire government network through special funding programs. Between 2019 and 2024, all medical documentation in public clinics was converted to digital format, through the Unified State Health Information System.
The Moscow healthcare system is the flagship of this direction: here they first implemented comprehensive digital patient management at all stages, from diagnosis and treatment to follow-up care.
In addition to digitization, Russia is actively developing the use of artificial intelligence in routine medical tasks. Marus Media previously reported that in 2023-2024, more than 400 AI-based products were implemented in 84 Russian regions, both for reading medical images and assisting physicians in making clinical decisions.
