Medical care for citizens of the Russian Federation is financed through mandatory health insurance (MHI) and the federal budget. High-tech treatment methods available on this basis are included in special lists. The inclusion of a new treatment method in the list essentially means that the technique begins to be actively applied not only experimentally in research centers but also more routinely, in major federal and regional clinics. This allows accumulation of experience to ensure quality of medical care. Foreign patients also gain access to new types of treatment, but on a paid basis.
In 2026, Russian and foreign citizens will have access to cancer therapy for children, chemoradiation therapy for solid tumors and high-intensity supportive therapy for children with cancer.
In neurosurgery, treatment will be implemented for severe spinal cord dysfunction, through implantation of spinal epidural multi-contact electrodes and neurostimulators with permanent power sources.
Reconstruction of bone defects using megaprostheses, as well as new types of spinal surgery, will become available for patients with musculoskeletal system pathologies.
Organ transplantation methods have been substantially expanded: the list includes complex kidney transplants, pancreas transplants, and upper limb transplantation.
Previously, Marus Media reported that Russia has defined priorities for medical technology development until 2030, and that a registry of the most innovative treatment and diagnostic methods will be created.
In addition, at the end of 2025, it became known that the country will have more national medical research centers, the most competent and largest clinics specializing in specific medical care profiles.
